The Shiva Linga Stone
Locals from Chhota Barda village near Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh are rejoicing as they have discovered a Shiva lingam stone (or shil ling in Hindi) in the Narmada river near their village. Local temple priest Rameshwar Pathak has sent samples of water and sand from the river to Gwalior’s Geology department for testing.
According to experts, one can get numerous benefits by having a bath with water and sand mixed with shil ling. Further tests are being carried out at the laboratory where scientists are looking at the presence of minerals which they expect will provide further evidence that it was indeed shil ling which got dissolved because of chemical reactions, leading to the formation of various minerals such as calcite and travertine.
What Is A Shivling?
A shivling, otherwise known as a Shiva lingam stone, is an object used by Hindus to worship Lord Shiva. They can be made of several different materials including sandstone, marble, and granite. Although they are typically cylindrical in shape, they can also take on other forms such as a pillar or cones. After they have been consecrated by a priest and handcrafted according to traditional techniques, they will often be filled with vermillion powder before being worshiped.
Ancient Beliefs Of The Shivling And The Holy River Ganges
According to Hindu mythology, Shiva’s lingam is all-pervasive, representing his phallus or uncut power. When Shiva created female deities, he also created an organ with which they could conceive—his shivalingam. In short, lingams are seen as phallic representations of Shiva’s energy and creativity. They are considered to be so powerful that when one fell into India’s Narmada River over 1,000 years ago and then went missing for centuries, it left a lasting impression on local mythology.
Where Is The Shivling?
The Shiva lingam stone, discovered in Gujarat, will be sent to experts for verification. As per reports from Times of India, an institute in Ahmedabad has found a Shiva lingam at an abandoned well near Brahmanwada village in Khed Brahma taluka of Devbhoomi Dwarka district. The shrine is being built and maintained by Ved Bhushan Ashram, a trust that also includes Bapu Devidas Ashram as one of its trustees. These two religious institutions have been around since the 1960s and had been managing a Hindu temple situated on five acres of land belonging to them. The institution in Ahmedabad has sent pictures of their discovery to different laboratories across India for verification and to determine how old it is.
How Was The New Shivalinga Found?
For centuries, there have been legends of a holy Shiva lingam stone located in The Mighty Narmada river. Rumors say that it glows with its own light and that anyone who holds it will be blessed with good fortune. Until recently, these stories were merely rumors. However, on January 1st of 2019, a local fisherman was able to catch a glimpse of what appeared to be an ancient rock under an area of stagnant water and quickly fished it out so he could study it more closely and consider if his discovery was indeed real or just another legend.
Religious Significance Of The Discovery
The Shiva lingam stone is considered to be one of Lord Shiva’s many manifestations. It is believed that when one bathes in holy water from a lingam stone, it purifies all sins committed over one’s lifetime. Located at Haridwar on the banks of river Ganga, Bathing Ghats are built on both sides of river Ganga and are popularly known as Gangeshwar & Bhimgoda ghat. Both ghats have 11 temples dedicated to Lord Shiva who blesses devotees with all success in their lives.
